Thomas Shiemke

            Thomas Shiemke, age 91, of Ossineke passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2019, at Precious Days AFC Home.

            Born in Alpena, MI on April 23, 1928, Thomas was the son of the late Felix and Irene (Suszek) Shiemke. He married the love of his life, Irene Brousseau on September 25, 1948, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Alpena, MI. Thomas began his career working as a crew member on the Great Lake's Ships, and after his marriage to Irene, he became a repairman for Huron Portland Cement Company. He was a member of the Ossineke and Alpena Lions Clubs and formerly served as governor of district 11-2E. He was very dedicated to charity work and was an accomplished gardener and woodworker. He will be remembered for being a great storyteller and for his commitment to his family.

            Thomas is survived by his loving wife Irene of 70 years, and their children: Susi (John) Faber of Traverse City, MI; Sharon Shiemke of Ossineke, MI; and daughter-in-law Patricia Shiemke of St. Ignace, MI; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as his two brothers: Richard "Moose" and Mike (Kathy) Shiemke both of Alpena, MI; two sisters: Sally Beauchamp of Escanaba, MI and Barbara Pokorszynski of Alpena, MI; along with several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Donna Herrick, who with her husband Al have helped care for him in his last months.

            He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Shiemke Jr.; one grandson: Dustin and his four brothers: Louis, James, Billy, and David Shiemke.

            Arrangements are being handled through the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather for visitation at St. Catherine Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, from 12 noon until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 2 pm with Fr. Bob Bissot officiating.

            Interment: St. Catherine Cemetery

            In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alpena Lions Club in memory of Thomas.
