Theresa Marie Dignan, 86, lifelong resident of Alpena, passed away at Besser Senior Living Community on December 3, 2023. She was born Theresa Marie Stepanski on August 1, 1937 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Romel) Stepanski. She attended St. Mary’s School, graduated from Catholic Central High School, and throughout her life was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Mary’s (later All Saints) and many of its organizations. She worked for Mulvena Trucking, the law firm of Mack & Kelley, and the Michigan State Highway Department. On October 4, 1958 she married Patrick Dignan at St. Mary’s Church. Together they had one child. Later in life she was an election worker, and in-home care provider. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, bus tours, BINGO, shopping, and keeping a neat house.
Theresa is survived by her son, James (Caroline) Dignan of Fairport, New York; grandchildren Sarah and Anna; brother Joseph Stepanski Jr.; siblings-in-law Richard (Helen) Dignan of Verona, Wisconsin, and Joan (Sonny) Chrzan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Pat, in 2020; siblings Clement Stepanski, Margaret Grambau, Raymond Stepanski, Arthur Stepanski, Alice Brousseau, Jeanette Stepanski, Elaine Olson, and Thomas Stepanski; foster-sibling Geraldine Kaiser; and sister-in-law Patricia Kreft.
Family will receive friends for visitation at A.E. Ross Funeral Home on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with prayer of the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, May 17, at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon in the All Saints Parish Center will follow the Mass. After the luncheon, interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Deepest thanks to everyone at Compassionate Care, Alpena Senior Citizens Center, MediLodge of Green View, Besser Senior Living Community, Hospice of Michigan, all the medical personnel, and the many loving family members and friends who cared for Theresa as her health failed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Citizens Center, Hospice of Michigan, or All Saints Catholic School.
