Sally Mae Zdybel
Sally Mae Zdybel, age 82, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at her daughter's home.
On June 19, 1937, Sally was born to the late Agabitan and Helen (Kaszubowski) Suszek in Alpena, Michigan. September 1, 1956, she married Elden Zdybel at St. Mary Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on December 10, 2000. Sally was hooked on traveling after cruising the Yantze River. She made pilgrimages to Lourdes, Fatima, and Medjegore. She sailed the Sea of Galilee, swam in the Dead Sea, and walked in the River Jordan. After she worked for Perch's IGA for 20 years, Sally moved to Florida and became a certified Bunka (Japanese Embroidery) instructor, teaching classes in Sarasota. She won many blue ribbons for her art work, even won the 1st place Blue Ribbon for her "Last Supper" picture at the "Best in Show" in Biloxi. She returned to Alpena after 29 years and joined the Have-A-Heart Quilters at the Senior Center, enjoying many hours quilting and playing Mahjong while visiting. Sally was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
She is survived by her three children: Valerie (Erick) Erickson of Alpena, MI; Dr. Rose Zdybel of Ypsilanti, MI; Nancy (Thomas) Lantto of Livonia, MI; three grandchildren Gregory (Michelle) Erickson, Kelly (Brent) Spencer and Alan Lantto; 11 great-grandchildren: Tyler Erickson, James, Ashton, Gunner, and Jaydon Spencer, Nolan, Evan, Ava, Drew, Jack and Tanner Erickson; two great-great grandchild: Kristopher and Miyah Spencer; four brothers: David (Gladys) Suszek, Paul (Leona) Suszek, Richard "Dick" (Ellen) Suszek, and James Suszek all of Alpena, MI; three sisters: Joanna Filipiak of Rogers City, MI; Blanche Jozwiak and Diane (James) Blaski both of Alpena, along with several nieces and nephews.
Sally was preceded in death by one son Melrose Zdybel, one grandson Erick Erickson Jr., and one sister Irene Wallace.
The family wishes to send a special Thank You to Hospice of Michigan and staff members: Stacie, Jennifer, Delynn, Martha, Tonia, and Katie.
Services were handled by the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home. A complete obituary will be updated at a later date.
