Rosalie M. Newhouse
Rosalie M. Newhouse, 89, of Alpena passed away peacefully on September 21,
2021 under the compassionate care at Medilodge-Alpena. She was born in Alpena
on April 12, 1932 to the late Aloysius and Rose Marie (Smigelski) Tadajewski and
was a lifetime resident. She married Clarence Newhouse in 1978 at St. John's
Church. He proceeded her in death on November 11, 1991.
Rosalie, better known as Rose, worked many years in the retail business. She was
catalog manager of Montgomery Ward, manager of Three Sisters and manager of
Leather Quarters. In her later years, she enjoyed working at Rite Aid as a clerk.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church for many years, attending school there as
a child and supporting the church and her Catholic faith all her life. She was a
member of the Rosary Society, Group #4. Rose was always remembering a special
occasion and could recall things about Alpena which made her a great story teller.
Rose had three children. Surviving are son, Dr. Joseph Cook, Ph.D, of Atherton,
California; daughter Nadine Fortier of Gaylord, Michigan; and son-in-law, Gabe
Werda of Texas. Daughter Kathleen Werda and son-in -law Larry Fortier preceded
her in death.
Rose has five grandchildren: William Fortier, Anthony Fortier, Lauren (Werda)
Muzyka, Ryan Werda and Kevin Werda. She also has three great grandchildren:
Marissa (Fortier) Litherland, Samantha Fortier and Nicklas Fortier. Rose's great-
great grandaughter, Mya Litherland Cain completed her legacy of five generations
of family members.
Rosalie was the youngest of the seven Tadajewski siblings who have all
predeceased her. They were Joseph Tadajewski, Leo Tadajewski, Mike
Tadajewski, Antonia(Tillie) DeRosia, Dr. Alfred Tadajewski and Mary Woloszyk.
