Roger E. McDonald, affectionately known to many as "Reggie," passed away with his family by his side on March 3, 2025, at My Michigan Medical Center in Alpena, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and cherished memories. Born on May 22, 1946, in Alpena, Roger was the beloved son of the late Delmar and Bertha (Schiler) McDonald.

After dedicating 37 years of his life to Abitibi as a press operator, Roger embraced retirement with the same vigor he applied to his career. He approached every day with a joyful spirit, often brightening up the room with his infectious laugh and quick wit. It is said that he took great joy in being called Roscoe P. Coultrane, a nickname that truly captured his lively essence.

Throughout his life, Roger took pride in serving his country in the United States Navy, wearing his service with honor. His passions extended far beyond his professional endeavors; he cherished playing softball in his younger years, enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles, and relished the thrill of all sports. Neighbors often smiled as they witnessed him mowing his lawn or tending to those nearby—his trusty riding lawnmower became a symbol of his caring nature and willingness to lend a hand. No season was complete without Roger feeding the birds and deer, finding joy in the simplicity of connecting with nature.

Roger is survived by his two sons, Curt (Tammie) McDonald and Douglas (Tabitha) McDonald, who carry forward his spirit through the love and lessons he imparted, He was the best Dad anyone could ask for. He was a proud grandfather, leaving behind seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. His sister Winifred remains a cherished part of his family, reminding them of the bonds that transcend time.

Roger's kind nature earned him the title of the best father-in-law in the world, an esteemed accomplishment he held close to his heart. He touched the lives of many with his warmth and caring demeanor, and his passing leaves an irreplaceable void. Those who knew him will fondly remember the smile that lit up his face and the joy that followed him wherever he went.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Bertha, along with his siblings Fran, Virginia, and Harland. As a kind, caring, and fun-loving man, Roger E. McDonald will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date, honoring the remarkable life of a man who brought so much joy to those around him.
