Rita Joyce Glomski, age 91, of Long Lake, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Friday, October 20, 2017. She will begin her eternal life with God.
November 4, 1925, Rita was born in Alpena, Michigan to the late Philip and Rose (Filipiak) Kowalski. She married Gabriel "Gabe" Glomski on May 6, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church by Mgsr. John Gatzke together they had 9 children. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2000. Rita was a librarian for St. Mary Catholic Church for 18 years, retiring in 1987. She was a Director of Religious Education at St. Mary's School for 12 years and assisted at St. Mary's rectory as often as possible, a Eucharistic minister and part time wedding cake baker. Rita enjoyed all kinds of crafting from scrapbooking for family, oil painting, needle point, quilting and much more, which she often donated to the St. Mary's Christmas Bazzar. She was also a member of All Saints Rosary Group # 18.
She is survived by her seven children: Phillip (Linda) of Oscoda, MI; Thomas (Elizabeth) of Alpena, MI; Roseanne Miller of Dewitt, MI; Mark of Alpena, MI; Christopher of Alpena, MI; Kathryn (Wendell) Gibbs of Justin, TX; and Gerald (Glenda) of Argyle, TX; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; three siblings Jeanette (Ed) Schaller of SC, Gerald "Jerry" (Donna) Kowalski, and Joseph (Julie Burke) Kowalski both of Alpena, MI; two sister-in-laws Dianne Kowalski, Jane Kowalski, and several nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by two sons: James and Larry Glomski, two brothers: Harold "John" and Anthony Kowalski, along with one sister: Rosalie Hampton, and one son-in-law James Miller.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Rosary Society will recite the Rosary at 3 p.m. and a Parish Wake Service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial begins with Fr. Scott Lawler officiating.
Internment: Holy Cross Cemetery
In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan at 145 N. State Avenue; Alpena, Michigan 49707 or the All Saints Schools in memory of Rita.
