Richard J. Fatka, age 86, of Presque Isle passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center of Alpena.
On January 28, 1932, Richard was born to the late Wenceslaus and Leocadia (Cierhusz) Fatka in Detroit, Michigan. Richard served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed by the Bendix Corporation as an electrical and aeronautical engineer, and was active in the US Space Program for many years. Following his retirement he was the owner and operator of the Friendship Lodge at Long Lake for 30 year, retiring in 2000. Richard married Deanna (Schultz) Gougeon on August 15, 1997, at St. Anne Catholic Church with Fr. Green officiating. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish, and part of the Third Degree of the Knights of Columbus. Richard also participated with Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed spending time with his adopted family.
He is survived by his wife Dee of 20 years; three children: David (Margo) Gougeon of Alpena, MI; Devin (Misty) Gougeon of Hudsonville, MI; and Delain Sand of Lee's Summit, MO; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his one sister Christine.
Family and friends will gather for memorial visitation on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 10 am until the 11 am Memorial Mass with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating, followed by a 2pm Committal Service at Holy Cross Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496.
