Alpena

Rick Burns, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on July 12th, 2024 at Medilodge of Greenview. Rick was born in Alpena to the late Norman and Meryl (Hester) Burns on July 25, 1956. He was surrounded by his loving family. Rick was a devoted father to 8 children and their spouses, Chris (Kelly), Lee (Lisa), Heather (James), Ashley (David), Misty (Josh), Dustin (Cherisse), Miranda (Mac), and Cody (Briahnna). He was also a cherished grandfather to 25 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. Rick is survived by a brother, Lee Burns, three sisters, Kay Lusk, Judy Walker, and Vicki (Tim) Dusterhoft, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his two best friends, Wayne and Pete whom he visited with daily watching the news and solving all the world’s problems. In heaven, Rick is reunited with his brothers Norm and Frank, and sister Jenny, as well as their parents. Rick will be remembered for his love, generosity, work ethic, and ability of telling you exactly what he felt. He was an incredible grandpa to his grandchildren leaving behind many joyous memories. The loss of Rick leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, strength, and laughter will live on.

Rick worked in the oil fields all over the United States for over 30 years until he retired, allowing him to spend more time with his children and grandchildren. He loved to work on Harley Davidson Motorcycles, collecting random rocks, and tending to his impressive “garden”. Rick was also an avid lottery player hoping one day that him or his children would get that big ticket.

Rick has been taken for cremation from A.E. Ross Funeral Home with celebration of Rick’s life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider a memorial contribution to Alpena Senior Citizens Center or Hospice of Michigan. Online condolences may be registered at www.aerossfuneralhome.com
