Paul E. Cormier, age 86, of Alpena passed away at Munson Healthcare Center in Traverse City, Michigan on Friday, September 23, 2016.
Paul was born in Leominster, Mass. on February 26, 1930 to the late Edouard and Marietta (Wood) Cormier. He married Ethel Marotta on May 29, 1954, in Worcester, Mass. she preceded him in death on February 12, 1978. He then married Anita Soik on October 12, 1979 at St. John the Baptist Church in Alpena, MI. Paul's Employment began at a very early age of 12, delivering groceries for the elderly. As an adult, he was self-employed as a roofer, then sailed the Great Lakes, and later retired from Abitibi Price. Paul was a caring soul and responded quickly to someone in need. He served in many capacities as a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He served as a Disaster Chairman for the Alpena Red Cross Chapter, held membership in the 3rd and 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus, was a member of V.F.W. Post 3890, Alpena Shriner's Club, 32nd Degree Mason of Alpena Hopper Lodge # 0199, Hunters Harvest for Charity and served Little League as an Umpire. Paul was in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean conflict and travelled throughout the world. His first love was golf , scoring a "hole in one,"twice and was an actor at the Civic Theater in Oklahoma City as well as in Alpena.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Anita and his three children Steven Cormier, Sandra (Joe) Kenneally, and Shelly (Kevin) Fettes. His 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his infant daughter Lauren Cormier, his 3 year old son Thomas Cormier, brother Joseph Cormier. and infant brother Merton Hastings.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home from 2pm until 8pm. Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496 will be at 4 pm at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home, followed by the Knights of Columbus Color Guard from 6 pm until 7 pm and a joint K of C and Parish Prayer Service beginning at 7pm followed by a Third Degree Presentation of the Mass, and a Fourth Degree Chalice Presentation. Visitation will continue at St. Mary Catholic Church of All Saints Parish on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial begins with Rev. Fr James Fitzpatrick officiating.
