Patrick A. Bays

            Patrick A. Bays, age 70, of Ossineke, passed away peacefully with his loving wife Beverly of 51 years at his side, on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center of Alpena, after an extended battle with cancer.

            On November 7, 1949, Patrick was born to the late Alexander and Rita (Saladin) Bays in Garden City, MI; moved to Ossineke during his formative years with his mother, father, sister, and three brothers, where they operated a local convenience store as well as a local gas station. After graduating from Alpena High School; Patrick married Beverly J. Gauthier on July 26, 1968, at St. Catherine Catholic Church. He served in the US Army from 1968 through 1977, serving his country with pride. He later worked as a local Mailman in Ossineke, MI for 25 years, where he was well known as "Pat the Mailman" retiring in 2005. He absolutely loved baseball in all forms; from playing throughout his childhood, playing during the service, and many years on the Ossineke County League as a well respected, switch hitting middle infielder. Patrick dedicated countless volunteer hours to coaching teams, maintaining fields, pitching batting practice for many, many teams, and generally doing what it took to help others continue to play the game he enjoyed so much.           

            He is survived by his wife Beverly; one daughter: Nicole (David) Zann of Commerce Twp, MI; one son: Scott (Amber) Bays of Alpena, MI; three grandchildren: Amelia Zann, Ethan Zann, and Nolan Bays; one brother Victor Bays of Alpena, MI and several nieces and nephews.  

            Patrick was preceded in death by two brothers: Lynn and David Bays; one sister Shirley Lundquist.

            Per his wishes Patrick has been taken from the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation, a private family service will be held at a later date.
