Marilyn Estelle Thomas, 80, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Medilodge of Greenview. She was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend whom will be dearly missed by many. Marilyn was born on November 27, 1942 to the late Erwin and Estelle (Stashuk) Rospierski in Hamtramck, Michigan. On Jan. 4, 1963 She married the love of her life Lawrence Thomas. They joined hands in marriage in and started their family in St. Clair, Michigan.
There were many things that Marilyn enjoyed in her life such as, camping, watching hummingbirds and orioles, she loved her poodles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Marilyn was an avid Citizens Band Radio Operator. Most people knew her as “Crazy Legs” (her CB handle) as she was often found communicating with others throughout the 1980’s. Being a long-time resident of MediLodge of Greenview, Marilyn became very close with the staff over the years. She was loved by many as they often referred to her as “Ma”.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Lawrence, two sons, Lawrence Jr of Alpena, and Leonard Thomas of Long Rapids, four grandchildren, Dustin Thomas, Amber (Ryan) Taylor, Kaden Moore-Thomas, and Kalen Moore-Thomas, one great grandson, George Taylor, a god son, Tony Boudrie, two sisters, Sharon Osner of North Carolina, and Cindy Jorden of Colorado. She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Alan Thomas, and two brothers, Leonard Rospierski, and Sonny Rospierski.
A celebration of life gathering will take place at Karpus Hunter & Ross Funeral Home on Friday July 28, 2023 from 2pm until 4pm with inurnment to take place immediately after at Evergreen Cemetery. Online condolences may be registered at www.karpushuntercares.com
