Lloyd Wilfred Gauthier

U.S. VeteranLloyd Wilfred. Gauthier, age 86, of Spruce passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.
Lloyd was born on November 13, 1930, in Black River, Michigan to the late Ovela and Zelma (Rondeau) Gauthier. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving as a medic. On April 16, 1955, he married Valeria H. Simich at St. Joan of Arc in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. They spent 43 years together before Valeria preceded him in death on April 23, 1998. Lloyd was involved in the student exchange program. A former member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, the Ossineke Eagles, Exceptional Friends of Ossineke, the Michigan Residential Care Home Association, and a life member of the Spruce V.F.W. He was a mason for various contractors, and later Lloyd and his wife operated an adult foster care home for many years. In his retirement years he continued his interests in raising rabbits, chickens, and expressed his love of gardening.
He is survived by his three sons: Jovonie Gauthier of Zeeland, MI; Anthony (Edith) Gauthier of Tennessee Ridge, TN; Timothy (Vernell) Gauthier of Red Oak, TX; two daughters: Gena (Martin) Carstens of Spruce, MI; and Holly (Steven Wetzel) Allen of Troy, OH; along with his 12 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers: William Gauthier of Ossineke, MI; Norman Gauthier of Spokane, WA; and several nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by two brothers: Howard and Gerald; four sisters: June Rundell, Darlene Gonyea, Geraldine, and Pauline
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Monday, April 3, 2017, at St. Catherine Catholic Church from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. Memorial Service begins with Fr. Bob Bissot officiating. Followed by full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496.
Internment: Pleasant View Cemetery in Spruce, Michigan.
Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Hospice of Michigan.
