Kenneth R. Senchuk, age 92, of Alpena passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan surrounded by his family.
Kenneth was born in Alpena, Michigan on October 3, 1927, to the late John and Angeline (Beauregard) Senchuk. He served in the US Army in Germany from 1946 to 1948, where he met Maria Kodynsky, the love of his life. They were married on April 24, 1947, and celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2017, before Maria preceded him in death on July 20, 2017. Ken and Maria made many friends in both the Alpena area and at their winter location in Zephyrhills, FL. Ken was employed as a meat cutter at A & P and as head mechanic at the Thunder Bowl. He also owned and operated Alpena Sporting Goods for a brief period of time. Ken was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2496, where he frequently served as a bar tender for special functions, and the Alpena Moose Lodge. Ken was the ultimate competitor, whose skills as a baseball player, bowler, golfer, pool player , and youth baseball manager earned his induction into the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shuffle boarding, reading, going to the casino and playing cards at the Alpena Senior Center. He loved the Lawrence Welk Show, polka music, and watching the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, and Wolverines.
He is survived by his five children: William (Dixie) Senchuk of Hartland, MI; Judith (George) Nastas of Haslett, MI; Robert (Debbie) Senchuk and Al (Peggy) Senchuk both of Alpena, MI; and James (Sylvia) Senchuk of Richland, MI; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his 7 siblings: Phillip, Lloyd, Julius, Edmund, Earl, June Doublestein, and Irene Cook.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of All Saints Parish on Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 11 am until the Memorial Service begins at 12 pm with Fr. James Fitzpatrick officiating, followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496.
Inurnment: Holy Cross Cemetery
Memorials may be made to the Alpena Senior Center in memory of Kenneth.
