Gladys Lucille Kelsey

Gladys L. Kelsey, age 99, of Alpena, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Besser Senior Living Community. Gladys was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was born on May 15, 1923 to Stanley and Natalie Greskowiak. On August 17, 1946 she married the love of her life, Leo Kelsey. Gladys was a County Normal Teacher, then a Library aide at Thunder Bay Junior High School until she retired at the age of 75 in 1998. She was a devout and faithful catholic at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of All Saints Parish where she remained an active member for many years. She was a member of the Rosary Society for more than 50 yrs (Honorary Captain at 90), a member of the Daughter's of Isabella, she taught faith formation, and was a board member at St. Mary’s Catholic School. Her faith and family were the center of her existence. She was loved and cherished by her family and will be greatly missed. Her greatest joy in life were her children. Gladys was a faith filled person who loved GOD, family and friends. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, playing scrabble, traveling, and sitting on her favorite porch swing. A mother holds her children’s hands for awhile but she holds their hearts forever.
She is survived by her six children, Alan (Nancy) Kelsey of Alpena, Claudia (Dan) Minton of Alpena, Ron (Lynn) Kelsey of Alpena, Diane Kelsey of Lansing, Karen (Mike) Summers of Williamston, and Paul (Denise) Kelsey of Grand Ledge, eleven grandchildren, Sean Kelsey, Kori (Brian) Mischloney, Nicole (Ryan) Schian, Nicholas, Madeline Kelsey, Justin (Wendy) Summers, Christopher Summers, Michael (Erin) Minton, Steven (Melissa) Minton, Scott (Amy) Minton, Emily (Erik) Swenson, 16 great grandchildren, Beau, Quinn, Macie, Hudson, Logan, Ella, Ryan, Meghan, and Marina, Emily, Grace, Jayden, Tyler, Alyson, Ellie, Nathan, two sisters, Doris Greskowiak, and Dolphine (Jim) Piper, a niece Liz Piper, and dear friend Rose Langlois. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Leo, a brother Ronald, and a grandson, Ryan Kelsey.
Memorial visitation will take place on Monday, July 18, 2022 at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 10:00 A.M. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Michael Lingaur and Rev. Polycarp Mblarawa officiating. The Rosary Society will be reciting the rosary starting at 10:00 A.M. Gladys will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery with her husband Leo. For those unable to attend the service will be live streamed. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to All Saints of Alpena.
