Frederick B. Meldrum, age 90, of Alpena, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 24, 2017, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center of Alpena.
On September 12, 1926, Frederick was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Guy and Josephine (Bertrand) Meldrum. On August 19, 1950, he married Arlene L. Glanville in Redford Township. Frederick served in the United States Army during WW II stationed in the Philippines. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church of All Saints Parish.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Arlene and 6 of their children: Suzan Keena of Alpena, MI; Donald (Alyce) Meldrum of CA; Brian (Sherry) Meldrum of Hubbard Lake; David (Anna) Meldrum of CO; Kathleen (Kevin) Brown of CO; Kayla (Mike) Baird of CO; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; one brother J. Michael Meldrum of Alpena.
He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Meldrum, one sister Mary Oke, and a brother Robert Meldrum.
Per his wishes he has been taken from the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation. A grave side Committal Service will be held at Long Rapids Township Cemetery on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 12 noon, followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496 and the Michigan Army National Guard. A Celebration of Frederick's Life will be held at the Alpena Cycle Club on Spruce Road immediately following the Services.
