Eugene 'Gene' W. Sobeck

Eugene (Gene) W. Sobeck, age 87, of Alpena passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Medilodge of Alpena, surrounded by his family.

            On May 21, 1932, Eugene was born to the late Killian and Evelyn (Anderson) Sobeck in Alpena, Michigan. He married Joyce Reynolds on July 10, 1954, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Gene worked for the Huron Portland/ Lafarge Cement Plant for more than 40 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist of All Saints Parish. Gene enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, and golfing; though his greatest passion was in baseball and his dedication to coaching for several generations.

   He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce and their five children:     Patti (Robert) Martinez of Alpena, MI; Steven (Susan) Sobeck of Schoolcraft, MI; Elizabeth (Christopher) Bearss of Boyne City, MI; Daniel (Nancy) Sobeck of Sanford, MI; and Julie Wood of Alpena, MI; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, along with one brother: Thomas (Diana) Sobeck of Alpena, MI; one sister Judith (George) Glennie of Alpena, MI; one sister-in-law Norma Sobeck and several nieces and nephews.

            Gene was preceded in death by one grandson John Paul Martinez; one great-granddaughter Abigail Lemke, and his three brothers: James, Clifford, and Richard Sobeck.

            Family and friends will gather for visitation on Friday, July 5, 2019, at St. John the Baptist Church of All Saints Parish from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM, with a Rosary Society Service beginning at 4:30 PM and a Parish Prayer Service at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at St. John the Baptist Church of All Saints Parish from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial begins with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating.

            Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery

            Memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan in memory of Gene.
