Elaine J. Richard

Elaine J. Richard, age 87, of Alpena, went home to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Medilodge of Alpena, surrounded by her family.

            On September 16, 1930, Elaine was born to the late Leonard and Florence (Kennedy) DeCaire in Alpena. She married William Robert "Bob" Richard on October 28, 1961, they were married 49 years before Bob preceded her in death on March 8, 2011. She worked as a LPN nurse at Alpena General Hospital for 10 years, then later worked in Home Health Care and cared for children for many years. Elaine was an adopted Grandma to many. Elaine was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish and the Ladies Sodality.

            She is survived by her five children: Annette (Mark) Wade of Alpena; Sally (Bill) Hawley of Ossineke; William Jr. "Bill" (Sue) Richard of Alpena; Theresa (Ron) Vredenburg of Ossineke; Paul Richard of Alpena; 8 grandchildren: Chris (Becky) Wade, Steven (Caitlin) Wade, Scott (Kristen) Wade, Heather (John) Williams, Zach Hawley, Alisha Richard, Renee, Nathan, and Sarah Mae Vredenburg; 15 great-grandchildren. Her three brothers: Joe (Barb) DeCaire of Corunna; Patrick (Doretta) DeCaire of Alpena; and Donald (Kay) DeCaire of CO; four sisters: Marie Roznowski and Rose Mary (John) Jackowiak both of Alpena; Suzanne (Fred) Romanak of Lansing; Janet (John) Pokorney of NC; two sister-in-laws Bernie and Judy DeCaire along with several nieces and nephews.

            Elaine was preceded in death by six brothers: James, Gerald, Jack, Tom, Charles, and Michael DeCaire; one sister Sally Kelly, and two nephews: Lenny Jackowiak and Dave DeCaire.

            Family and friends will gather for visitation on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home from 2 pm until 8 pm with a Parish Prayer Service beginning at 7 pm. Visitation will continue at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 10 am until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11 am with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating.

            Internment: Holy Cross Cemetery

            Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Foundation (Annette Wade) or Friends Together (Theresa Vredenburg) in memory of Elaine.
