Donald M. Kurtz

Donald M. Kurtz, age 98, of Alpena, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at his home.

            On July 4, 1920, Donald was born to the late Robert and Lydia (Schnittker) Kurtz in Kelly's Island, Ohio. Donald served in the US Navy during WW II. He married Phyllis Haggard in 1950. She preceded him in death in 1973. He was employed by Huron Portland and National Gypsum. Later he was employed in Insurance Sales and then became a shoe store manager. Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an avid bowler and fan of the Detroit Tigers.

            Donald is survived by his five children: Thalia Simpson of FL; Scott Kurtz of Canton, MI; Thomas Kurtz of Scottsdale, AZ; Jack Kurtz of Little Rock, AK; and Jean Kurtz of Kalamazoo, MI; four grandchildren: Andrew, Christopher (Ashley) Nicholas, Lauren (Bobby) and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Lucas.

            He was preceded in death by five siblings.

            Per his wishes, Donald has been taken from the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

            Internment: Evergreen Cemetery, Alpena, Michigan
