Alpena, Michigan and Carolina Beach, North Carolina
Formerly of Bay County, Michigan
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Charles F. Campbell , sailed to his Heavenly home in the evening hours of December 1, 2019 in Freeland, Michigan. Charles was born on May 7, 1935 in Pinconning, Michigan to the late Charles F. Campbell and Minerva (Peters) Burke. On July 12, 1979 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alpena, Michigan, Charles married his loving wife and caregiver, Donna Minnick, and she survives him. Charles proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy Reserves for twelve years and forty-two years in the U.S. Merchant Marines. He was honored to be inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame in Rogers City, Michigan. In 2001 after forty-two years of service for the American Steamship Company, Charles retired as the Chief Engineer of the American Mariner. He was an active member of the Ramblin Rods Car Club in Alpena, and attended many car shows whenever time prevailed. One of Charles biggest joys in life was working on cars; refurbishing antique cars was his specialty. Charles loved to go fast and will be remember as a speed demon by many. Something not many know about Charles is that he was an avid woodworker. One of Charles proudest accomplishments was being dedicated to his AA recovery for 42 consecutive years, as well as sponsoring many others and providing guidance and support. Leaving a great legacy for his family; Charles loved his family, God, and his country. He will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of over 40 years and “the best thing that ever happened to him”, Donna Marie Campbell; ten children, Deb (Dean) Hitchens, Vicki Gizowski, Dori Jo (Tom) Amthor, James (Lynn) Campbell, Rev. Charles (Kelly) Campbell, GeradlynDetloff, Linda (Roy) Samborn, Paula Bixman, Sharon (Chris) Kasper, and Vicki (Tim) Gulden; forty-one grandchildren; eighty-three great-grandchildren; fur baby, George; two sisters, Judy Bowersock and Joyce (Keith) Heartline; sister-in-law, Marlene (Paul) Gersewski; two brothers-in-law, Tom Minnick and Roy (Martha) Minnick; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
