Carl A. 'Big C' Holben

Carl A. "Big C " Holben, age 79, of Alpena passed away peacefully after an extended illness at home on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, surrounded by his family.
On February 21, 1938 Carl was born in Wyandotte, Michigan to the late Charles and Helen (Lamarand) Holben. He married Beverly Nightingale on June 24, 1961, in Lincoln Park, Michigan at Christ the Good Shepard Church. After 45 years she preceded him in death on November 13, 2006. Carl served in the United States Air Force. He worked for Great North Foods for over 20 years, retiring in 1997. Carl was a former member of the V.F.W. Post 2496. Enjoyed spending his time doing woodwork, fishing, and spending time with his friends.
He is survived by his two children Richard (Angela Buckler) Holben of Alpena, MI; Shari (Richard Pemberton) Holben of Chase, MI; his 4 grandchildren: Adam McKay, Remington Buckler, Allan Holben, and Noah Holben.
Carl was preceded in death by a son Adam Holben, a daughter Dawn Holben, and daughter-in-law Stephanie Holben. Two brothers Earl and Richard Holben, and two sisters: Connie Milne and Barbara Bentley.
Per his wishes he has been taken from the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation. Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of his Life on June 10, 2017, from 12 noon until 4 p.m. at his favorite hangout (his garage) at 369 North June Street; Alpena, Michigan
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Relay for Life or Hospice of Michigan.
