Betty Jane Sytek, 83, of Alpena, MI passed away December 11, 2021 at MyMidMichigan Health Center in Alpena surrounded by her family.
Betty was born September 2, 1938 in Alpena to the late Joseph and Bernice (Wisniewski) Pilarski. As a family, they owned and operated Pilarski Grocery in Posen. Betty married Norman Sytek on April 23, 1960 at St. Casimir Catholic Church of Posen. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1995. Betty was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Alpena and its Rosary Society and the Ladies Sodality. She enjoyed flowers, sewing and spending time with her family. She showed incredible generosity and kindness to all and warmed people with her big, beautiful smile.
She is survived by her children; Pauline (Brian) Blanton of Presque Isle, Agatha (Joseph) Ropeta of Rochester Hills, Ron (Ann) Sytek of Alpena and Mary (Duncan) Segrest of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Nine grandchildren also survive; Jessica (Kevin) Ford, Allison Peters, Adam (Lauren) Sytek, Renee (George) Karsaba, Beth Segrest, Maggie Sytek, Rebecca Segrest, Bryn Ropeta, and Jake Ropeta. She also leaves four great-grandchildren; Alexander and Vincent Ford, Natalie Karsaba, and Madeleine Sytek.
Visitation for Betty will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home. The Rosary Society will recite the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. followed by a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to All Saints of Alpena for the stained glass window restoration project. Final Resting place will be Holy Cross Cemetery in Alpena. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.karpushuntercares.com
