Anton 'Tony' Peter Sobolewski

U.S. VeteranAnton "Tony" Peter Sobolewski, age 90, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Tendercare Alpena.
Anton was born on July, 6, 1926, in Iron Wood, Michigan to the late Bruno and Romanda (Kowalkowski) Sobolewski. He married Rita Farr in June of 1953, she preceded him in death on January 9, 1970. He then later married Mildred Dammrose- Lappan on October 9, 1970, in Alpena. Anton served in the US Navy during WWII. He also served with the Michigan State Police for 23 years, retiring as the Alpena Post Commander, then later served as the Alpena County Sheriff. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Alpena Lions Club. Tony kept active working with the public in his retirement and enjoyed going out for coffee and playing cards while visiting with friends.
Tony is survived by his loving wife Millie of 46 years, and his four children: Timothy Sobolewski of Alpena,MI; Terri Soboleski of Ossineke, MI; Cathy Bennett of Sante Fe, NM; and Mary Lappan of Thompsonville, MI. His five grandchildren, Nathan, Misty, Amanda, Jacqueline, Graham, and four great-grandchildren Myleigh, Maddox, Hayden, and Hayleigh. His brother Jerome Sobolewski of Iron Mountain; his sister Helen Graykoski of Bloomer, Wisc; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers Steve, John, and Lawrence; his two sisters Jo Makinen and Stella Brady.
Per his wishes he has been taken from the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation. A private family Memorial Service will be held in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lansing, Michigan.
