Donald John Cook

            Donald John Cook, age 83, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, surrounded by his family at The Home of Wellsprings Lutheran Service of Fairview, Michigan.

            On September 16, 1934, Donald was born to the late Stewart and Marie (Reichle) Cook in Hillman, Michigan. On January 2, 1960, Donald married Mary Taraskiewicz at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Hillman, Michigan. He served in the United States Army during 1956 - 1958. Don was a very hard working truck driver his whole life recording over 4.5 million miles. On his journey through life he has touched many people along his way, over the road and those close to home. Don always had the ability to tell the best trucking stories in the trucking industry. He will always be remembered for his wonderful teaching and fathering skills to his large family and his friends.

            Donald is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary and their 7 children: Joe (Connie) of Lachine; David (Becky) of Gaylord; Phil (Alice) of Hillman; Lorelei (Tom) Torsch of Posen; Tom (Waneta) of Gaylord; Chris (Sherry) of Herron; Mark (Andrea) of Gladstone; 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one brother: Mike (Beth) Cook of Hillman; two sisters: Thelma Jean (Clyde) Reiter of Hillman; Mary Ann (Jim) Matison of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

            He was preceded in death by his infant grand-son Luke Cook

            Family and friends will gather for visitation on Friday, April 13, 2018, at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home from 2 pm until 8pm with a Parish Prayer Service at 7 pm, followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496. Visitation will continue at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish on Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10 am with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating.

            Internment: St. Augustine Cemetery in Hillman, Michigan

            Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or All Saints Catholic School in memory of Don.
